THE MUSEUM OF SANTA MARINELLA
The museum of Santa Marinella is located in the town of Castle of Santa Severa, on the premises known as “The Powder Keg”, “The Chimney” and “The House of Donkeys”. It is divided into two sections, teaching and exhibition space, and has a laboratory of archeology.
The Education Department presents the main places of historical and archaeological interest of the township, also visible through scale models that show the Etruscan sanctuary, the city of Pyrgi and the Castle of Santa Severa. A part of the artwork is dedicated to the sea and includes models of warships and transport Etruscan, Greek and Roman, the reconstruction of a side of a Roman ship with amphorae, as well as a collection of old tools of shipbuilding. The exhibition hall is equipped with audio-visual equipment as well as a retail outlet and is designed to hold conferences in other cultural activities.
Section Exhibition was created with the aim of creating a center for the conservation and documentation of archaeological remains found in the bottom of the ancient coast Cerite.
Among the finds, we offer a wide documentation of maritime activities, a number of jars of Etruscan, Roman, Greek, Spanish and African for the transport of wine, oil, fish sauce and fruit documenting the distribution of products and the ancient trade routes in the Mediterranean.
Among the other items you can see a lamp in bronze Roman, hooks and fishing weights, rings sailing, ceramic tableware, a block of iron ore from the island of Elba.
The Laboratory of Archaeology, with its wealth of teaching tools to illustrate aspects of ancient life and archaeological research, allows you to participate throughout the year, in experimental programs of introduction to archeology.
Some of the topics covered include the life of the medieval castle, prehistoric pottery, painting Etruscan archaeological stratigraphic excavation, for this purpose, in the garden, was set up a designated area for the excavation of a prehistoric deposits stratigraphy simulated including Etruscan and Romans.
The museum features artwork as well as Italian, French, English and German.
Every day, at set times or on demand, the museum starts with visits to the “Pyrgi Etruscan and Roman,” which includes the Museum Antiquarium Pyrgi, the polygonal walls, the cellar of the Woodshed, and the castle of Santa Severa, which includes the Museum, the village the castle, the Saracen Tower and the Baptistery.
Opening hours to the public in the winter are from Tuesday to Sunday from 9:30 to 12:30 and from 15:30 to 18:00 in summer from Tuesday to Sunday from 10:00 to 12:00 and 17:00 to 20:00 in July and August from 21:00 to 00:00
