Piazza del Campidoglio
Since medieval times the area of the Capitol was the seat of the civil administration she cities. Michelangelo Buonarroti redesigned completely the square, drawing it in all the details and not making the turn more towards the Roman Forum, but towards the Basilica of St. Peter, who represented the new political center of the city. He trapezoid – the designs of the pavement reduce ovoid -, and is surrounded on three sides by the palace of the Conservatives on the right, andin building of the Capitoline Museum on the left, perfectly equal and symmetrical, marked by tall pillars, while the fourth, which salt from the bottom of a long and beautiful cordonata, designed by Michelangelo, opens with a balustrade on the terrace overlooking the city.
