Vermeer
27/09/2012 – 20/01/2013
For the first time in Italy, the Scuderie del Quirinale in Rome is hosting until 20th January 2013 a major retrospective of the mysterious 17th century Dutch Painter Johannes Vermeer. The exhibition, which includes a meticulous selection of his works, places emphasis on the great Delft artist’s relationship with his contemporaries who were active in his home town as well as in neighbouring communities in Amsterdam, Haarlem and Leyden.
The works of Vermeer, the greatest Dutch painter of his age, generally reflected bourgeois culture of 17th century Holland, focusing on private themes such as the family, with gestures and moments of daily life.
