Gianicolo – Monteverde – the romantic and picturesque district of Rome
One of the most romantic and fascinating of Rome, the Janiculum Hill rises behind Trastevere and extends up to the Basilica of St. Peter. Enchanting: the look is lost on roofs, ancient ruins, monuments and Baroque domes until it touches the hills surrounding the city.
For art lovers, we recommend the Temple of Bramante, perhaps the best example of Renaissance architecture in Rome, while the naturalists is definitely a must the Botanical Gardens, with over 8,000 species of plants.
Every day, on top of the hill, a singular cannon shoots at noon. When the city is less noisy, especially in the summer, you can hear the shot until the Esquiline.
Beyond the walls are Gianicolensi Monteverde, residential neighborhood full of mansions and elegant buildings where it is pleasant to take a walk.
To the north of the district, together with Villa Sciarra, remember Villa Doria Pamphili, the largest public park in Rome. Splendido Casino Breath, at the center of the park, surrounded by citrus trees and manicured formal gardens. Tiber Island Rome.
