The Tower of the Saracen
The so-called Saracen tower is the oldest part of the castle of Santa Severa, mentioned in documents of the eleventh and twelfth centuries.
The name of the cylindrical structure is due to its control function of the coastline and sightings of vessels “Saracens” in particular between the sixteenth and eighteenth centuries. The top of the tower, also known as “Norman”, was decorated in the Renaissance with three sets of brackets and fitted with drains.
In later it was united to the castle with a drawbridge still be visited today to 20 meters in height.
