The old town of Civitavecchia, squares and churches, a dip in the Middle Ages

The historic center of the city, which is built around the port of Civitavecchia, is undoubtedly one of the most visited by tourists.

About this square, which is also the oldest of Civitavecchia, the figure is the characteristic that distinguishes medieval setting: You can go beyond the medieval walls through the passage dell’Archetto, the upstream port of the ancient city dating from the ninth century, leading to the adjoining Piazza Aurelio Saffi, called San Giovanni, which gives its name to the district and from which you reach the Church of Death (Oration and Death), the oldest in the city.
