The Roman dockyard
The Roman dockyard is the innermost part and oldest of the port; basin lower than the current has the shape of a large rectangle, communicating with the new port only by a small stretch, to favor the transit of vessels, patrol boats and recreational lookouts military.
This building, of course Trajanic, survived intact until the Middle Ages, has assumed its present appearance only in recent times, recent studies it has been calculated that the extracted material to obtain the basin, it was the same amount needed for the construction of ‘artificial island, which then was probably built with the same material quarried.
