Piazza San Lorenzo in Lucina
The square is named after San Lorenzo Basilica dedicated to the saint when you were deposited some relics attributed to the martyr. Lucina according to tradition was the name of a rich Roman matron, owner of the old home church, but being also an epithet of Juno Lucina, mother of the gods, it is very likely that the church was once a shrine dedicated to her.
Recently, the hypothesis that it may be just the ancient “Temple of Juno Lucina”. was corroborated by the discovery, during excavations under the Chapter House, a well and a wonderful mosaic intact, with white marble steps and frescoed walls. In addition to the church of San Lorenzo in Lucina, is an ideal place for a walk and maybe a stop at one of its historic bar.
